Let’s play a bunch of NES games together!
NES June (aka #NESäkuu) is my project where I dedicate a month to the good ol’ 8 bits, and immerse myself in a world of classic gaming. This includes not just playing NES games, but also enjoying lots of peripheral content, like cartoons and movies based on these games, reading ancient gaming magazines, and watching older retro gaming content.
Naturally, these projects are even more fun when they’re shared with friends, which is why the meat and potatoes of NES June is an ongoing high score challenge that anyone can take part in, so we can all relive the joy of chasing high scores together.

To submit scores, send an email to nesakuu@grogfel.la with video or photo / screenshot proof of your high score, and the name you want to be credited with. Twitch or YouTube VODs of your complete run are ideal, but not required. Real hardware, the NES Classic Mini, Switch Online or your favorite emulator or FPGA are all valid for submissions, but using emulator features such as rewinds, save states / suspend points and slow-mo is forbidden. Using game-altering hacks or hardware-based cheats like rapid fire or Game Genie is also forbidden (don’t be that guy).
Medals are awarded for every high score on the leaderboard. Whoever has the most medals at the end of June will be crowned the Champion of NES.
